UNICEF UK: Guide for Local Authorities and Health boards in supporting families with infants under 12 months living in food insecurity

In October 2022, UNICEF UK, First Steps Nutrition and the National Infant Feeding Network published Guidance for Local Authorities and Health Boards on supporting families with infants under 12 months experiencing food insecurity at the end of 2022.

The new guidance provides examples of emergency formula provision pathways that Local Authroities can use as a template to develop their own. We welcome this guidance and further push for Local Authority pathway development after our 2020 review of access routes to infant formula found these were few and far between.

The guidance maintains that food banks are

not to accept or distribute donations of infant formula.
