Feed point out what the APPGIFI forgot to mention
The APPGIFI formula costs inquiry report presented some really important information about the impact of the cost of formula on family budgets. The inquiry found that being unable to access formula forces families into unsafe infant feeding practices, putting infant health at risk. However, there were a few points we felt were missing, or unclear, so we wrote a blog outlining these. The key pointes we made included:
UNICEF guidelines prohibit formula distribution from many food banks
The WHO Code prevents discounts, promotions or collection of loyalty points of first infant formula
Conflict of interest is unclear
The viewpoints of families differed should have been prioritised and distinguished from the responses obtained from larger organisations and health care provider
